It’s a funny thing when you’re mom to two girls (or two boys, I’m guessing) and then find out you’re pregnant. Friends and family give you that sympathetic smile and assure you that they’re “really, really hoping for a boy,” but are sure “it’ll be fine either way,” in that strained, fake cheerful tone that you get when someone dies and they claim, “Well, they’re in a better place.” Total strangers see you sporting a belly with two girls in tow and shout, “I know what you need!” People repeatedly give my husband sympathetic pats on the back with “Well, looks like you’ll have three weddings to pay for,” or “you can get a hobby,” or perhaps my favorite, “at least your dog is a boy.”

People assuming that our (and particularly Nathan’s) life isn’t complete without an XY chromosome paired with the fact that I’m currently a ball full of hormones outrages me, especially when it’s said in front of our girls. My prayer is that they know how much they mean to us – no matter what gender they happen to be. We (yes, both of us) love little girls. We aren’t less of parents and Nathan isn’t less of a man because he has little girls. If we had ten of them, our life would still be just as full.

I know it’s human nature to always want what you don’t have and I guess people assume that goes for the gender of your children too. Now, I’m climbing off my soapbox for a little bump update.

Here’s the just shy of 17 weeks belly…

shocked to find out that our little peanut is in fact a boy! We had in our heads that it was a girl and I just had that girl feeling, but apparently mother’s intuition isn’t always right. Ry is excited and Parker is coming around to the idea of a baby brother. She was banking on a baby sister!

We are thrilled. Baby looked healthy and everything was right on target, which really is all we could ever hope for – be it a girl or boy. Here’s a profile shot of our little man.

So right now, we’re working on reprogramming from dolls and dress up to trucks and robots!

I appreciate all the thoughts and prayers during this pregnancy. We’ve had so many people that have been so supportive and it means the world.

Be back soon with a peek at Ry’s new bedroom along with a little DIY!

Wait until you get the “Wow! Three! You’ve got your hands full” comments along with the sideways-head-sympathetic-smile.
The bad part is I don’t really want to tell them that it’s not that bad. I just want them to walk away and think “I should pray for that poor girl.” Ha! 🙂

It really is a lot of fun…never a dull moment!
